Chiropractic Care Can Help With Back Issues Due to Physical Inactivity

Physical inactivity is not just bad for your health in general. If left unaddressed, it can easily lead to chronic back pain and an entire host of other joint or spine issues. If you are physically inactive (or nearly so) and beginning to develop problems because of it, make it a point to sit less and move more to whatever extent you are able.

You should also consider seeing a chiropractor for help with back pain, neck pain, posture issues, and more. If you are in the North Carolina Triangle area,  Chiropractic Partners will be happy to assist you at one of our multiple locations. We will work with you to help you get your health back on track.

Am I Physically Inactive?

Approximately 20 percent of adults worldwide are physically inactive, but what does that mean, exactly? According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are two different levels of physical inactivity to consider.

  • Level 1 (Inactive): Refers to a person who engages in little to no physical activity, either at work or in their leisure time.
  • Level 2 (Insufficiently Active): Refers to an individual who engages in fewer than 150 minutes of moderately strenuous activity (or 60 minutes of high-intensity activity.)

Although some activity is undoubtedly better than none, falling into either of the above categories is cause for concern and can lead to health issues if not addressed.

What Are the Dangers of Physical Inactivity?

The human body is not meant to sit stationary all or most of the time. The more sedentary behavior you engage in and the longer you are inactive, the more likely you are to develop issues like the following:

  • Circulatory system issues like cardiovascular heart disease, hypertension, or stroke
  • Depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues
  • Weight gain and obesity
  • Osteoporosis
  • Chronic lower back pain and joint/spine stress
  • Posture issues
  • Sleep problems
  • Headaches and other forms of chronic or intermittent pain
  • Ergonomic problems- tech neck, poor posture, migraines, neck pain, and low back pain

Keep in mind that you do not necessarily need to hit the gym for a full circuit workout to go from being inactive to active. Even low-impact activities like light walking, household chores, and floor exercises (mat work) can help immensely.
