Chiropractic Adjustments

A chiropractic adjustment is the most common procedure that a chiropractor performs. Often, it's what people refer to as "back cracking" since you may hear cracking noises or a pop when your joints move. The procedure, however, is quite safe, doesn't cause much discomfort, if any, and it can help tremendously with back pain and pain located elsewhere in the body. It's also beneficial for patients who have headaches or migraines. At Chiropractic Partners, serving Cary, NC, and the nearby region, our chiropractors use this therapy quite frequently for our patients along with other chiropractic treatments.

Pressure Relief

A chiropractic adjustment is a procedure that begins with our chiropractor situating you on a table. Using manual movement, our chiropractor realigns any out of out-of-place vertebrae. This takes the pressure off of discs, nerves, and surrounding tissue. Additionally, it allows blood to flow more optimally throughout your back. This is ideal if you have an injured disc because the area receives nutrients that it needs to heal.

Uses for Chiropractic Adjustments

We use chiropractic adjustments for herniated and bulging discs. A herniated disc occurs when you have a tear in the shell of your disc. The contents of the disc may leak through this crevice. A bulging disc, however, occurs when the shell of your disc weakens as a result of the aging process. The contents of the disc push on the weakened shell and cause it to bulge. Generally, a herniated disc is more likely to cause you pain and discomfort because it can irritate the nerves and tissue, although either one may cause discomfort.

Our chiropractor may also use an adjustment for sciatica. Sciatica symptoms arise as a result of an injury or damage to the sciatic nerve. As a result of the damage or injury, you experience problems related to your sciatic nerve, such as pain or weakness. Sometimes, you develop numbness, tingling, or burning. Since your sciatic nerve runs from your lower back to your feet, you may notice these symptoms in your legs and feet as well as your back.

Chiropractic adjustment can also be used if you have degenerative disc disease. Due to the aging process, your discs change over time. They lose fluid and experience wear. A spinal alignment takes the pressure off the discs.

A few other common conditions that can be benefited by the use of chiropractic adjustments include scoliosis, (an issue that occurs as the result of irregular curvature in the spine), spondylosis, stenosis, headaches, migraines, and more.
