Definition of a Chiropractic Adjustment

A chiropractic adjustment, also referred to as a spinal adjustment or spinal manipulation, is a treatment method frequently used by chiropractors. The point of this treatment is to improve body function and range of movement. A chiropractic adjustment ultimately helps realign the spine to its natural position, relieve pressure off of pinched nerves, promote blood flow throughout the body, and speed up the healing process.

During a spinal adjustment session, a chiropractor adjusts the vertebrae using a specialized technique or equipment and a slight amount of pressure. Patients report little to no discomfort during this process. Additionally, it's not known to cause many side effects, and it promotes healing naturally.

What to Expect During Your Visit

When you come into our office, our chiropractors will perform an evaluation and ask you questions about your health history. Our doctors may also assess your range of motion and see first-hand where you're experiencing pain.

If we determine you have a problem and you could benefit from a chiropractic adjustment, you'll receive information about the process.

At the start of an adjustment, we will ask you to lie face down on a table. Then, we will move your vertebrae using gentle, controlled thrusts.

What a Chiropractic Adjustment Treats

Adjustments are useful for treating a variety of issues that causes back pain. It's also beneficial for those who experience headaches and migraines.

It even helps minimize the symptoms of a herniated disc. This particular issue occurs when you have a tear in the outer layer of one of your discs. The contents of the disc may leak into the spinal canal and irritate the surrounding nerves and tissue. In comparison to a bulging disc, this problem is more likely to cause pain.

Our chiropractors may also perform an adjustment to help with:

  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Sciatica
  • Scoliosis
  • Spondylosis
  • Stenosis
