  • Did you know that inflammation can be caused by the foods you eat? Inflammation contributes to the same common aches and pains that bring so many patients into our chiropractic clinics.  The average American diet is pro-inflammatory, consisting of: 20% refined sugars, 20% refined grains, 20% refined seed (omega-6) oils, 20% grain-fed meats, 10% dairy, and only 10% of vegetables, fruits, nuts, etc.

  • Diet sodas are also proinflammatory, and while they technically have “no calories”, substances like the caramel color are converted into fat and stored in the body, regardless.  Seed oils are common in salad dressings that we may think are healthy, but Canola oil is actually rape seed oil, a highly proinflammatory omega-6 oil.  Refined sugars are commonly used in most prepared foods including salad dressings.

  • An important step in living an anti-inflammatory lifestyle is to bring your readers to the grocery store and read labels.  Once this becomes a habit, you will learn to avoid purchasing foods that contain highly inflammatory ingredients.  Processed and prepared foods in general should be avoided!

  • And most importantly, anti-inflammatory choices become a lifestyle, not simply a diet.  Chiropractors (DC’s) are a great option for understanding how food choices affect health. Since foods are a form of natural medicine, chiropractors are educated in the science of nutrition more so than allopathic doctors. Since DC’s don’t prescribe pills for pain, chiropractors have to understand how inflammation is caused and how we can naturally reduce it. Nutrition is key!
