Don't become a couch potato just to prevent injuries this Winter!  Yes, there are many Winter sports that can be a risk of getting injured, but don't let that stop you! Chiropractic Partners is here to help should you need pain relief!

Skiing, snowboarding, ice hockey, and ice skating have a certain level of risk for falling, strains, or fractures.  But these risks aren't the only thing you need to worry about.  Back and neck pain, muscle strains, and spinal misalignments could also be a symptom from Winter injuries.

Here are a few tips to avoid injuries if you are still wanting to participate in Winter sports/activities:

  1. Going on the ski slopes or ice skating? Warm up by stretching before and afterwards! 
  2. Too cold outsider? Try some other forms of exercise to get warmed up inside before hitting the slopes; This could be squats, lunges, jogging in place, or jumping jacks. Warming up improves flexibility!
  3. Shoveling snow?  Use a shovel with a longer handle and step in the direction that you are shoveling.
  4. Decorating up on high places?  Be sure to ask someone to hold the ladder or use a step stool. 
  5. Lifting heavy boxes out of storage? Lift with your legs, not your back. Bend your knees and don't lean over too far to grab those boxes.
