About indigestion:

Your digestive system includes the stomach, esophagus (food pipe), small intestine, colon, liver, gall bladder and pancreas.

Your digestive tract is the central processing unit for your body. A healthy digestive tract is critical to feeling good, functioning well and avoiding some serious diseases. Think of indigestion is a warning sign that something is off kilter. Indigestion is a vague feeling of pain and discomfort in the chest and upper abdomen, including a feeling of fullness and bloating, accompanied by nausea and belching. Heartburn, on the other hand, is a burning discomfort behind the lower part of the sternum that’s typically caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), the rise of stomach acid back up into the esophagus. Causes of indigestion include:

  • Chronic adrenal problem
  • Diaphragm muscle spasms
  • Allergies
  • Smoking
  • Diet
  • Overeating
  • Eating too fast
  • Significant caffeine intake
  • Eating spicy or fatty foods
  • Significant alcohol consumption
  • Inflammation of the gallbladder
  • Acute or chronic gastritis
  • Acute or chronic pancreatitis
  • Duodenal ulcer
  • Gastric ulcer
  • Antibiotics
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Aspirin

Conventional treatment of Digestive Problems

Indigestion-related problems are usually treated with some type of over-the-counter or prescription medication. Often these medications can cause severe side effects like diarrhea, constipation, headaches and chest pain. The medications typically just cover up your symptoms without actually fixing the root source of your indigestion. And this can cause a dependency on the medication, too.

Natural treatment that gets results

Dr. Jere uses the highest quality supplements.

Studies have shown a direct link between back pain and indigestion. The nerves coming from the mid back area go to the gallbladder, pancreas, stomach and small intestines. Stomach dysfunction can be caused by pressure on these nerves. Dr. Jere uses a combination of chiropractic adjustments, enzymes, proper nutrition, diet and lifestyle recommendations to help beat your digestive problem. Chiropractic adjustments can decrease the pressure on the nerves while helping to restore normal nerve impulses to the organs. In many patients with stomach trouble there is also a great deal of tension in the abdominal muscles and the diaphragm. Applying some gentle pressure to these areas can also relieve stomach symptoms, as well. Dr. Jere’s approach is to look for the underlying causes of any disturbance of your digestive system and then create a program for you that will optimize your digestive system for normal function.
