Shoulder Pain Relief

Relief for shoulder pain that’s gentle and effective

Too often, people with a shoulder injury ignore it, thinking it is a temporary pain and will go away. But ignoring the injury won’t stop the pain. And it can lead to long-term shoulder damage.

For fast and effective relief from shoulder pain see Dr. Jere Jarrett. He has brought real relief to hundreds of people since 1988 through effective chiropractic care.

Dr. Jere trained under leading chiropractors at the world-renowned National College of Chiropractic. Over the decades he’s continued to learn how to effectively treat health conditions, including chronic shoulder pain without medications or surgery.

What causes Shoulder Pain?

The shoulder is the most movable joint in the body and it’s also one of the most potentially unstable joints. Your shoulders contain bones, muscles, nerves, arteries and veins, as well as ligaments and other supporting structures. Shoulder pain is an extremely common complaint that has many causes.

Some of the main causes of shoulder pain are:

  • Referred pain from the neck
  • Neck pain is often also felt in the shoulder. Dr. Jere will always examine your neck when you come in for shoulder pain.
  • Inflammation of the shoulder tendons and bursa
  • Known formally as “Bursitis/Rotator Cuff Tendinitis—Impingement Syndrome”, this is the most common diagnosis in people with shoulder pain.

Rotator Cuff Tear

The rotator cuff is made up of the muscles and tendons that connect the upper arm bone with the shoulder blade. Different degrees of rotator cuff tears can occur.

Shoulder Injuries

  • Shoulder dislocation occurs when the ball part of the shoulder joint slips out of the socket. Instability can also occur, causing the joint to be loose. Additionally, the ligament or other tissues can tear.
  • Arthritis and Calcification
  • Shoulder arthritis is less common than knee and hip arthritis. Tendons can calcify in the rotator cuff, causing impaired movement and pain.
  • Referred pain from internal organs
  • Pain from the gall bladder can be felt over the right shoulder and pain from the pancreas over the left shoulder. Dr. Jere takes this into account when treating you for shoulder pain. Heart attacks can refer pain into the left shoulder and arm.

Dr. Jere will make sure that you get the right treatment for your pain, even if that includes referring you to the another practitioner for treatment of more serious complaints or injuries.

Locating the exact source of the problem

Dr. Jere uses diagnostic tests to get to the root cause of your shoulder pain. He studies your medical history, a detailed questionnaire of your symptoms and lifestyle and takes low-dose x-rays as needed. If you have MRIs, he will review these. A principal tool Dr. Jere uses is Applied Kinesiology, colloquially known as muscle testing.

The importance of muscles in solving neck and spinal pain

Applied Kinesiology is a type of diagnosis that uses muscle testing as a primary feedback mechanism to determine how a patient’s body is functioning. Muscles are the stabilizing forces for bones, including the vertebrae of your spine. In muscle testing Dr. Jere can find the muscle systems that are not doing what they should be.

Dr. Jere uses the information isolated to create the most appropriate pain relief treatment plan for your shoulder problem.

Effective treatment for relieving Shoulder Pain

Dr. Jere’s treatments for shoulder pain are gentle, nonsurgical and drug free.

There is a cause and a solution to your shoulder pain. Dr. Jere will find both. And then he’ll get you started on the road to a strong, healthy and pain free neck.

Chiropractic Adjustment

While the spine is most commonly adjusted, the chiropractic adjustment can be performed at any joint. Adjustment brings motion back to stuck joints reducing nervous system disruption and allows the body to heal and return to normal.

Cold Laser Therapy

Cold laser therapy is proven to painlessly stimulate tissue growth and repair. The cold laser accelerates healing, and decreases inflammation, swelling, muscle spasm, stiffness and pain.

Nutritional Counseling

Dr. Jere has extensive training and experience in nutritional counseling. He can offer specific recommendations on nutritional supplements and healthy food choices to enhance your return to optimal health.

Other treatments for Shoulder Pain

Dr. Jere might recommend other kinds of treatment for strengthening your shoulder muscles or relieving pain and muscle tension. These related treatments could include: stretching, ice packs, moist heat, exercise program and anti-inflammatory supplements or creams.

Tips for preventing Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is a common complaint that becomes even more common with age. Anyone who has ever experienced shoulder pain knows just how important this joint is to daily life. Here are a few tips for preventing shoulder pain:

  • When it comes to sports injuries, prevention is often just a matter of strengthening the muscles in the shoulder to prevent the injury in the first place.
  • Posture-wise, keep your head up and your shoulders slightly back to prevent shoulder pain. Letting your shoulders to slump forward leads to increased pain in the joints.
  • Position your keyboard and mouse so your arms are relaxed at your side, you have a slightly open angle at your elbow and your wrists are straight.
  • Take a short break about every half hour, to rest your neck and shoulders if you work on a computer all day.
  • Stretch before physical exercise to help increase circulation and elasticity of the muscles and tendons. Stretch your shoulders while sitting or standing.
  • Use proper lifting techniques to reduce stress on neck and shoulders.
  • Throw balls underhand or sidearm.
  • Do not overhand serve when playing tennis.
  • Do the sidestroke or breaststroke when swimming.
  • Stop doing any activity that is causing you shoulder pain.
