Why Muscle Testing Works

If we take a graph and have the vertical line represent body function, the top being 100% and the horizontal line representing time, as the body does age, we can then demonstrate the role function plays in health.

nervous system1 Why Muscle Testing WorksThe body is very capable of obtaining and maintaining this 100% function. It is a self-healing organism, a cell generating machine designed to heal itself. Most people are not aware of the healing ability of the body.

The different organs of your body renew at different speeds. For example, your stomach lining is replaced every five days. Your skin is completely renewed every month: your liver, every six weeks; your brain, every two months; your heart every three months and on goes the cell replacement during your life.

The body controls this function through the nervous system. This system is the communication control center for the body. It is a feedback system that allows the body to determine what is wrong and then provide the solution to fix or repair and correct any problem.

Example, an area of the body starts to malfunction. On the graph mentioned above, the line starts to move down and away from the 100% function.

Through the nervous system, communication goes into the area of malfunction and then the correction or handling for the area is determined and the solution is provided and the function is returned to normal. The line of the graph will move back up toward 100% function.

The process is called homeostasis. (Human homeostasis is derived from the Greek, homeo or “same”, and stasis or “stable” and means remaining stable or remaining the same). This process takes place 24 hours a day, always working, always watchful.

There can be times when the nervous system is having difficulty correcting the situation and failing to bring the body back to normal. The lack of response will often result in a symptom to attract your attention. You could say the symptom is the body’s way of saying “help!”

On the graph mentioned above you would see a line moving down and away from the 100% function and staying lower with an up and down motion attempting to correct over time, and then the symptom would appear as correction failed over time. The point between where the poor function started and the symptom appeared would fall into the malfunction state of the body. The body is not medically sick and yet it is not working like it is fully capable of doing.

Why traditional medicine will often not catch the beginnings of chronic disease

This area of malfunction becomes very frustrating in diagnosis and treatment through traditional medicine. The frustration is there because often the medical tests performed come back normal with no findings that can support a diagnosis.

An example of this may be the person suffering from indigestion problems. All the tests are performed: medical physical exam, blood work, endoscopic exam (exam using an instrument to see inside the body), etc., and none of these tests come back with positive findings locating why there is indigestion. In other words the tests are normal.

The frustration is there for the patient because they are suffering from symptoms that they know are real, but the tests say they are normal. How can that be?

The frustration is there for the doctor because he knows something is wrong with the patient, but there are not medical findings to be able to help. How can that be?

The cycle of symptom correction with medication

The result is usually the recommendation of a medication to handle the symptom, and a society that now has the average adult over the age of 65 on an average of 7 medications.

At first the symptom may be better with the medication, but the cause is never addressed. As time moves forward the body will continue to malfunction (even more) and then eventually have some positive medical tests validating more medical prescriptions. Not exactly a solution to health, especially from the definition mentioned above.

There has to be another way to determine how to help the body, especially in the area of malfunction, before the medical tests become positive.

Why not use the nervous system, as that is the system that the body uses?

Using the nervous system to find the source of the problem

The nervous system is directly connected to the muscles. The body has to move and control actions and do things in life. So it must turn the muscles on and off. The technical term is to facilitate (turn on) and inhibit (turn off) the muscles.

The nervous system is in direct communication with the organ systems. You do not think about digesting your food, or having your heart beat or any other of the thousands of actions your body does automatically.

There is also a referred nerve response from the organ system to the muscles. This connection can be a source of referred pain and muscle disturbance.

A couple of emergency examples: Severe left arm pain can possibly mean a heart attack. A knife pain between the shoulder blades in your back on the right can possibly mean a severe gall bladder attack. These are emergency medical problem and are referred pain from another organ.

It was discovered that the muscle system that is related to the organ system experiencing the disturbance would be inhibited and lose tone or be turned off. For example, the muscle system related to the stomach would be weaker when the stomach is undergoing problems.

Muscle testing helps locate where the body is not in good communication.

Knowing this information, the technique of muscle testing (Applied Kinesiology) can be a tool to help understand where the body is having difficulty in communication, i.e. handling a return to normal function. Muscle testing can provide an important clue to helping the body in a state of malfunction, from which a program of treatment can be made to bring the body back to a state of full wellness.

Applied Kinesiology does not diagnose anything, but it does help locate where the body is not in good communication. Restore proper communication and the body will naturally take care of itself.

Because muscles move bones, the loss of muscle tone or a muscle being turned off when it should be turned on will cause a muscle skeletal problem that is not resolving. Low back pain, neck pain, knee pain, arm pain, and almost any pain you can imagine with the muscle skeletal system, may need to get the muscle turned back on before it resolves.

Finding what that muscle needs in order to be turned back on, is the art and science of Applied Kinesiology. It is a valuable tool to discover the cause of the problem.

Using the body’s own nervous system and muscle system to track down what is causing the poor communication and resulting malfunction is a valuable tool when used properly. With restored communication the body will heal itself.

As the great inventor Thomas Edison said:

“The Doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.”

Following Edison’s advice would be a wise road to health and 100% function.
