Chiropractor Arcadia San Gabriel Valley

Chiropractic care and orthopedics go hand in hand. Chiropractors, massage therapists and physical therapists work on the physical body to correct abnormalities of the skeleton, muscles and connective tissues. Sprains, strains, dislocations and abnormal bone deformities can be effectively treated with both orthopedics and chiropractic care. Correcting structural abnormalities helps to relieve pain, inflammation and discomfort that will only continue to grow worse if the condition is left untreated. Leaving an injury untreated can result in long term pain and suffering that requires more invasive procedures at a later date. Our chiropractors in Arcadia are here to help you with any injuries or discomfort you may experiencing in order to bring you back to a more healthy state!

What Is Orthopedics?

Orthopedics involves procedures and techniques that are used to correct any structural abnormalities or deformities associated with skeleton. This includes the spine, extremities, as well as the muscles and connective tissues that hold the skeleton together. When the muscles and connective tissue become damaged due to illness or injury, they can dramatically affect the placement of the bones. The longer the condition goes untreated, the more extensive the treatment plan must be to correct it. Orthopedic treatments often involve braces and physical therapy to help stabilize the injured area while it heals. Orthopedic surgery is also an option if the injury is extensive enough.

How Orthopedics and Chiropractic Care Work Together

Chiropractic and orthopedic care can be used together to effectively treat many conditions that involve the skeletal structure of the body. While orthopedics primarily work with bone and connective tissue, chiropractic care also addresses the muscular structure as well. Chiropractic care and massage therapy are often used together to strengthen the muscles. Strengthening the muscles around an injured area reduces inflammation and increases blood flow to the area. As the muscles become stronger and more resilient, they are better able to hold the bones in their original position. Once the chiropractic session is ended, an orthopedic brace can be used to further stabilize the area allowing it the time it needs to heal.

Orthopedic braces can be designed to completely immobilize a joint, such as with a whiplash injury. Any movement of a severe injury can cause more damage resulting in longer healing times and an increased amount of scar tissue. Braces can also be designed that allow for partial mobility. These are mostly used for bracing joints in the extremities. Allowing partial movement enables a person to continue to move and increase the strength of the muscles in the affected area. Enough movement is allowed to promote healing and increase strength, while still maintaining enough stability to protect the joint from being re-injured.

How Our Arcadia Team Can Help!

The professional staff at S.M.A.R.T. Spine Institute and Surgery Center have an in-depth understanding of orthopedics and how the body works. They can use that knowledge to diagnose structural abnormalities that are caused by illnesses or injuries. Once they understand what is causing the pain and discomfort, they can develop treatment plans that not only address the symptoms but also correct the original cause of the problem.
