Nerve Obliteration

Nerve obliteration, also called Renal Denervation, is one of the newest minimally invasive procedures used to treat hypertension. It involves “zapping” overactive nerves using radiofrequency waves to permanently relax the nerves to levels that reflect normal,non-stressed circumstances.

The "fussy" nerves of the kidney are zapped using a laser inserted through a catheter - releasing tension on the overactive system which then causes the arteries to relax. Blood pressure is lowered as a result, providing relief from hypertension that may not be responding to other treatments and drug therapies.

Nerve obliteration may eventually become a treatment option to all people who suffer from hypertension -providing a solution to controlling their blood pressure other than the perpetual use of pharmaceuticals.
