Joint Pain Treatment

Joint Pain Treatment in Arcadia, CA

Joint pain treatment in Arcadia

Although the term “joint pain” may sound a bit unassuming and innocuous -- like something that just needs a simple band-aid fix -- those who have actually experienced the condition at it’s worst can testify to the fact that painful joints are by no means a small thing. From ongoing mild discomfort to throbbing, mind-numbing aches, joint pain can turn the strongest among us into a quivering mess.

What’s especially frustrating about the pain associated with inflamed or damaged joints is that it can often show up seemingly out of the blue. This is because of the fact that in many cases, joint pain stems from an illness or chronic condition that may have lain dormant until a change in body chemistry causes a triggering event. Pregnancy is one example of this type of trigger. Other potential causes of mild or severe joint pain include:

  • Osteoarthritis/arthritis
  • Sports injuries
  • Bursitis
  • Gout
  • Strains, sprains, and other injuries

PRP Injections

PRP, or Platelet-Rich Plasma, Injection is a new treatment that makes use of the patient’s own blood to help heal damaged joints. This is not yet a widely used technique but we at S.M.A.R.T Spine Institute and Surgery Center believe it to be a highly effective, non-invasive alternative to expensive, painful surgery. Platelets are collected from a patient’s blood sample and they produce something called a Growth Factor which can aid in healing inflamed or damaged tissues that surround the joints. Water-rich Plasma contains glucose as well as other healing nutrients, and, combined with Platelets creates a powerful joint-enriching package. Working together, these two agents can reduce or eliminate inflammation, improve joint function, repair damage and stimulate soft-tissue regeneration.

Stem Cell Therapy

Stem Cell Therapy has been around for a while and it is proving to be highly effective in helping to ease the pain of knee osteoarthritis and other joint issues. Stem Cells are basically undifferentiated human cells that have not yet taken on any characteristics such as bone, nerve or muscle cells. This type of therapy works by injecting the stem cells into the damaged or eroded cartilage, which is then prompted to begin healing itself. Cells for this treatment are taken from the patient’s own bone marrow or from amniotic fluid or placenta material. Although not yet available everywhere, S.M.A.R.T. Spine Institute and Surgery Center has used this technique very successfully as a safe, practical alternative to cumbersome joint replacement surgery.
