Ultrasound

An ultrasound machine useshigh-frequency sound waves that bounce off body structures while a computer receives the reflected waves and creates a picture from the information.

Ultrasound makes it possible to see the interior of the body, without exposing the patient to radiation.

The test images the blood vessels and softtissues structure and can be used to document soft tissue injuries. It is also helpful in identifying inflammation on:

Nerve roots
Facets
Ligaments
Tendons
Muscles

Ultrasound can also aid in identifying spinal deformations and tumors.

The procedure is entirely painless. During the process, a clear, water-based gel is applied to the skin above the area of the examination, which helps transmit the sound waves.

A technician records the data, which is interpreted by a trained health care technician. The results are then sent to the physician.

A physician will discuss the results with the patient during a follow-up visit to the office where they can discuss treatment options based on the findings.
